#SaggyBoobsMatter

Can we all agree that we live in a generation populated by opinionated individuals? Everyone has an opinion. It’s like our parents rubbed our heads as children and cooed in our ears “your opinions are valid”. Therefore we grew up with loud voices, not necessarily shouting the right things but shouting nonetheless. Throw in a platform – case in point social media, and we have a lot of opinionated Gen-Xers shouting at the top of their voice.
You can tweet anything and literally start a new movement.

That is the power of social media.

Hashtags were first introduced in 2007 on Twitter but they’ve been used since then to draw attention to political and social issues.

#MeToo #TakeaKnee #WomensMarch #Covfefe #BringBackOurGirls #IceBucketChallenge #Brexit #HeforShe #BlackLivesMatter Are just a few of the popular hashtags that changed how we view social activism. In fact a word was coined….hashtag activism.

But as with every good thing, there is bound to be abuse.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you.... #SaggyBoobsMatter.

I came across this on Instagram which led me to the twitter page of the said champion of the Saggy Boobs movement. I scoured through this young British Nigerian lady’s page who also happens to a very popular blogger and saw countless pictures of her braless in cleavage revealing outfits. Think of any outfit where your boobs would be on display and this babe was wearing it.

My first thought was…”This is a movement too”

I told myself to not be quick to judge. I should try to understand the message behind her movement. I agreed with some of her points, like how we women do not exist for the consumption of men and how our value extends beyond how we look.

She also thought women with saggy boobs should be glorified for their beauty (I think 'ALL' women should be glorified for theor beauty). In fact one of her quotes said "If you are having trouble accepting your body, please look at mine and look at how socially unacceptable my boobs are."

Because she is the yardstick for social acceptance?

I deduced that her propaganda was that we as women should be allowed to have saggy boobs without men castigating us for not having perky boobs. But was the solution to flaunt the saggy boobs in their face?

Of all the issues we females have to contend with, I’m sure we would all agree that saggy boobs and/or how they are perceived by men are the least of our worries. There are remedies for saggy boobs if we care enough to change them- One of the most obvious being...wear a gaddem bra...the second being breast lifts.

We women should understand that our bodies are elastic and all natural things lose their elasticity with time.
If you appreciate and love your body the way it is, you do not need validation from any man, woman or social platform.

I don't even have a problem with her movement. But why is she almost always showing boobs in her pictures? Is that part of the movement too? And what exactly is the movement protesting for? The right for saggy boobs to be treated equally? [Well, I'm starting a short girl movement then based on my insecurities. #ShortGirlsMatterToo, #SmallBootiesMatter #SmallBoobsMatter #StretchMarksMatter.]

So do saggy boobs deserve a platform based on these reasons?

What then happens to pressing issues like rape, racism, child marriages, gender inequality, child abuse, equal human rights etc?

Are we using social media to seek social validation now?

How can someone gifted with a huge social media following which could be a powerful tool in driving attention to critical social issues decide that #SaggyBoobs are her priority?

Well, I quite like wearing bras. So it’s a no for me on saggy boobs.

If you don't want to wear a bra, that's your prerogative. Go about your business. Don't start a movement because guess what...#MyOpinionMatters

#SaggyBoobsDoMatter but not today and not to me. Taking my flip-floppy boobs to bed now.
